Injectable treatments

Facial aging is commonly caused by the breakdown of collagen and fat, which leads to volume loss and wrinkles. These signs of aging can develop in patients as young as their early 30s. However, these patients don’t typically have the skin laxity that would warrant extensive surgical correction. Injectable treatments are designed to smooth fine lines and increase collagen production to restore facial volume.

How Can Injectables Help?

Injectables offer the ideal treatment for patients looking to highlight their facial features who also wish to avoid invasive procedures. Injectables are fast-acting and provide patients with dramatic, eye-catching results. Various injectables are available depending on the type of facial enhancement you desire. Whether it’s erasing signs of aging or complementing your features, there is an injectable to help you look like the best version of yourself.

Target Treatment Areas

Eye & Forehead Wrinkles

Crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles are caused by both the weakening of the facial tissues as well as repetitive muscle movement in the area. Preventing muscle contraction in the upper portion of the face is an effective way to smooth wrinkles and erase signs of aging around the eyes and on the forehead.

Ideal Injectables:

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic
  • XEOMIN®

Nasolabial Folds & Volume Loss

Wrinkles around the nose and mouth are commonly the result of the breakdown of facial tissue in the area. This loss of facial collagen and fat not only leads to wrinkles but also to volume loss in the midface. Volume loss contributes to hollowed cheeks and a gaunt expression.

Ideal Injectables

  • BELOTERO BALANCE®
  • JUVÉDERM®
  • RADIESSE®
  • Restylane®

Lip Enhancement

Many people will find that their thin lips lack enhancing definition. Fuller lips can improve your facial appearance. However, lip implants are not the ideal treatment for patients. Non-surgical lip enhancement with filler injections safely and effectively provides patients with the lip shape and fullness they desire.

Ideal Injectables

  • Restylane®
  • JUVÉDERM®
  • BELOTERO BALANCE®

Identifying Injectables

Botulinum Toxin Type A

Botulinum toxin type A injectables use a botulism-related protein to block the transmission of neural signals to the facial muscles. This process prevents the muscles from contracting, causing them to relax. Muscles in a relaxed state result in the smoothing of wrinkles. Botulinum toxin type A injections should only be used to treat wrinkles of the upper third of the face, such as around the eyes, on the forehead, and between the brows.

Botulinum Toxin Type A Injectables:

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic
  • XEOMIN®

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the human body, and it plays an important function in stimulating collagen production. Hyaluronic acid injectables fill wrinkles and hollowed areas while stimulating the production of new collagen. This type of filler is best for treating the lower two-thirds of the face. Hyaluronic acid fillers plump the area, adding volume and definition.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers:

  • BELOTERO BALANCE®
  • JUVÉDERM®
  • Restylane®

Calcium Hydroxylapatite

Calcium hydroxylapatite is found naturally in the body, which reduces the risk of an allergic reaction to this filler type. The calcium-based microspheres in these fillers stimulate collagen production. Over time, the minerals are absorbed, leaving behind volumizing collagen.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite Fillers:

  • RADIESSE®

Injectables Concerns

Recovery

Injectable treatments are performed during an in-office procedure that takes less than an hour to complete. You may experience some mild bruising and swelling around your injection site. You may wear makeup immediately following your procedure. Patients should avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours and avoid lying flat for four hours after XEOMIN® and BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.

Results

The full effects of your treatment will be visible within a few days of your treatment. The duration of your results will vary depending on the type of injectable used.

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic and XEOMIN® both produce results that last for around three months.
  • BELOTERO BALANCE®, JUVÉDERM®, and Restylane® maintain their results for up to nine months.
  • RADIESSE® produces results that can last for a year or longer.

Pain

No anesthesia is required for an injectable treatment. A topical anesthetic may be applied or a nerve block injection may be performed to minimize discomfort during treatment. Most patients don’t experience pain during recovery, but an over-the-counter pain reliever can be used to treat any associated discomfort.

Risks

Injectable treatments are the safest and most common cosmetic procedure performed. Risks are generally mild and rare. Possible complications can include bruising, redness, swelling, numbness, headache, and nausea. Allergic reactions are rare.

Cost

The cost of an injectable treatment varies depending on the type of injectable used and how much is required to help you achieve your desired results. Injectables are priced per unit, and an accurate price quote will be provided during your consultation.

Injectables Frequently Asked Questions in Huntsville, AL

Do injectable treatments correct skin laxity that causes an aged appearance?

No. Injectable treatments fill wrinkles and increase collagen production, but they are not designed to restore skin elasticity. If you have mild or severe facial sagging, then you may need to consider a surgical procedure such as a facelift or brow lift to erase this sign of aging.

Are there non-surgical treatments available that provide a long-term solution to facial aging?

Currently, most injectable and laser treatments only provide results that last less than a year. Some RADIESSE® treatments can last up to two years. A surgical procedure is required to achieve longer-lasting results.

Am I a good candidate for an injectable treatment?

Patients considering injectable treatments should be in good health and have realistic expectations about the results. You should not undergo an injectable treatment if you have a severe skin condition. Patients who consider injectable treatments are usually looking to smooth facial wrinkles and restore lost facial volume.

Do injectable treatments leave scars?

No. A fine needle is used to inject a solution into the deep tissue of the skin. While some bruising may occur, you will not develop any scarring.
